In
December 2004 my mother passed away unexpectedly. As the mother
of "misswit," no one received more joy from my shmata
business than she did. As the months followed I felt an intense
desire to honor my mother in a creative way. With a heavy heart
as I and my family would go through the talismans of her life,
I uncovered in a crumpled bag, "etchings" of water
color designs from a Japanese watercolor class she had been
taking. I had never seen them before and it was so like her,
to be overflowing with this talent and have them so humbly hidden
away. Over a period of a few months, I combined some of the
images, staying true to her colors, creating a collage with
some. The result is a "lightweight long and short sleeve
shirt for all seasons" that fronts as a canvas, with the
look and feel of being handpainted. To quote a dear friend,
"this shirt feels like a hug." As a little girl my
mother’s nickname was Dotsie, and so I present to you
a taste of her creativity and talent and a small token of my
love for her -
